Im in college and I play trumpet.

I would play multiple instruments in multiple bands. Bass Clarinet is good for symphonies, ensembles and orchestras as it is hard to find good players in that field. Percussion is good for any band organization. If you are really good at clarinet you can do any symphony, ensemble or orchestra but know that there are normally ALOT of clarinet players.

But the trumpet is the MAC daddy of all. It is the most versatile as it can fit in any high school band program from orchestras, jazz, to marching bands. Also trumpet parts are very versatile as they are used for melodies, harmonies, sometimes even color and reinforcing chords. Whereas, with percussion its only rythm, bass clarinet its only bass parts and clarinet, its mainly lots of color and melody. Trust me, you would enjoy trumpet alot more.
