I have a telescope that cost under $200 and I took all these pictures with it.

I should say that I bough my telescope many years ago and you will have to spend a minimum of $260 plus tax today to get a new one that has equivalent resolution. Something like the one is the second source would do.

Tip - for that price range you are way better off gettinga good pair of binoculars. You'll be able to see just as much planetary objects witha 200$ pair of binoculars as you would a 200$ telescope, they are easier to just go and use, and have the benifit of having uses other than star gazing.

Start with binoculars and the go from there. Also if you really are set on a telescope, don't get a model advertising "magnification" it's a gimmic and a really bad one, you want light collecting area. With a lot of magnification all you are doing is amplifying the jitters that make things look fuzzy (as well as any vibratios in the ground).

Hi "hi"

Everyone I know who has bought a telescope smaller than about 10 inch (which would be quite expensive) has expressed disappointment with what they see. The planets really are a disappointment with anything less than a professional telescope, although if you can get into astro-photography, you can get good nebulae and star-cloud pics from 4 inch upwards.

My advice to anyone wanting to generally view the heavens is to get a good pair of binoculars, preferably mounted, and with 90 degree eyepiece so it is comfortable to view.

Get binoculars with 80 mm objective lenses or larger. If you have binos of this size and they are mounted, you will be gasping at what you can see when you scan the Milky Way. Binoculars have a much wider field of view than telescopes, and dual eyepieces give extra clarity due to your eye muscles being relaxed.

yes you may be able to see a little bit, and usually the moon, but you really have to spend $500 and up for a good hihg-quality telescope! I know this sux, but it's true. That's why I don't have a good one yet, just a little $200 one and I can see the moon and sometimes some of the close planets. But if you can spend some money, get a good one.

Yes they can see things. If you are going to spend $200 or less, get a good pair of binoculars instead. If you are going to buy a good telescope, the advice I've always heard is that $300 is the bare minimum. Below that, you are just buying yourself a toy.
