As a former teacher, I can say there may be several causes: 1) you remind the teacher of how obnoxious and annoying they are, themselves-- the "mirror" effect, I suppose (Never tell them this), 2) The principal is constantly on a personal power trip, and your teacher feels like they are always under the gun to raise those scores, and keep those kids in line, while he sits on his fat butt and fires off rediculous expectations, 3) A parent or other student complained about you, and they are trying to make everyone happy (although, other students complain about others to get them in trouble, too), and/or 4) your teacher feels overwhelmed with discipline issues, writing inspiring lessons that conform to several state mandates, and they realize they spent all those years in school to earn as much as a manager at a burger joint. That's just for starters. It's not personal, they are just trying to do their job, and if a student disrupts the learning process, teachers are primarily held responsible-- even fired if the test scores don't look good.

Yeah, teachers pick on kids, it's true. I've always been a teacher's pet and I still get picked on. I seriously hate it when I am having a bad day and get called on to explain something to the class. I've had teachers that hate me BECAUSE I'm smart. They'll try and give me harder stuff to figure out just because they want to make me look dumb. Everyone has those experiences regardless of whether they are liked by a majority or a minority of their teachers.

I have heard of those kind of teachers. I had one and i told my parents and they took care of it. They will not put up with any kind of crap. They figure they pay for it. So No way Teachers like that are losers and they know it. May be if u could get a tiny tape recorder that has a instant start when anyone talks and have it in ur purse in class then play it for your parents. Do not let the teacher know or u will never see it again. I have used one in some situations. Gotta Love It.

I wasn't but my youngest son was picked on by a teacher. He had to sit in a certain seat "in case" he did something wrong. I wrote to the priniciple and got action. This teacher had been doing this for sometime and other parents told me the same story. This teacher had to have another person in the room for that class. I'm not sure what his problem was!

Enemy and friend, it depended on the teacher. In high school I treated them like any other person, so if they were into power and disrespecting students just because they felt they needed to be over them in some way because of their position then they did not like me at all. If they were respectful and interesting (ie, had some good stories) then they liked me just fine.

I know what you're talking about, I've seen it when I went to school. I think they judge one child maybe on something they did before, and then no matter how hard the child tries to change or be good they just can't be in the teachers eyes. It's wrong.

My son's kindergarten teacher picked on him because she didn't know how to handle his intelligence. She had always taught exceptional children (children with learning disabilities) and along he came. He knew everything she was teaching and she didn't like that. The slower children in the class did okay with her but the more advanced children suffered at her hand.

Math 101:
Teacher has, let's say five classes per day, with an average of thirty students per class, times five days per week, times up to 200 days in the school year, plus extra-curricular activities, plus living his/her actual life,

equals NO TIME to hate any one kid. Get over yourself.

certain teachers like all professional authority figures get a little carried away with their powers , lest we forget some of our species have a tendency to enjoy belittling and commanding people under their authority , in school i was never hassled but i saw the ones who were in a bad way , i would see that they were scared before classes begun

I am the one the teacher's favor for her grades but also dislike somewhat because- when it comes to certain topics, especially history- I have a habit of either proving them wrong or having an opinion with which they disagree.
