Mail by postal authorities may take longer but for almost the same charges, you may try sending your packet from India by middle level couriers such as Blazeflash, Professional etc. and can have the things delivered in 4-5 days.

If your parcel is small..then i suggest to use India post. Airmail service. Maximum two weeks for first class parcel..if they are books you should opt te registered book packet scheme where yu save a huge amouunt in senting. any how indian post offices offer good service and sure delivery with in two to three weeks.

Hey,
I've sent a lotta stuff to the U.S. If you use the government speed post service, you should be paying about 700Rs. for a parcel of around 500gms-600 gms.. This will reach the U.S in about 4-5 days...You can also check the status of your parcel online....But please don't send anything to Canada through Speed Post....One of my parcels got lost,i suppose...It has landed in Canada but info thereafter...I tried sendind e-mails to the canadian postal department and got very irresponsible answers....Just stopped short of suing them..
If you choose the courier service i would suggest "FIRST FLIGHT COURIERS", if you have it in your city...It is a mid-level courier service, but very professional and good...I've sent many of my parcels across the globe and never had problems with them..... You may choose DHL if you are ready to pay a hefty sum...."PROFESSIONAL COURIERS" were not very confident the first time i approached them....I sent DVDs across through First Flight as suggested by Professional!!
Through First Flight, the parcel would reach in 3-4 days and again you can track it online or call their customer service for help...It would cost you about 1000Rs. for a 500 gms package...If it is documents might cost you less...

Hope this helps.....
