OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! I had one of those after my honeymoon. Here's what I felt like:
-Felt like I had to urinate every 5 minutes but only a dribble would come out.
-The dribble burned like heck.
-When I took a shower it hurt when the water hit my back.
-tired
-fever (probably)
-just feeling rotten all the way around.
This is all I can remember. It was 5 years ago since I experienced this. I just remember it wasn't very fun. My groom took me to the emergency room when taking a shower brought tears to my eyes. The doc gave me some kind of pills to nutralize the urine so it wouldn't sting, and antibiotics for the infection, and I think anti-inflamatories, but I am not sure on that one. He also told me to eat blueberries. They used to reccommend cranberry juice, but they now consider that to be too acidic. Good luck with that.

~~Signs/Symptoms~~
Usually symptoms come on very fast. They include fever, chills, pain, upset stomach, low back pain, vomiting, a constant need to urinate or an inability to urinate at all, blood in the urine, and pain or a burning sensation during urination.
~~Risks~~
Without care, you may get repeated kidney infections and even kidney failure. The infection could also spread to other parts of your body and cause worse problems.
~~Causes~~
Conditions such as pregnancy, diabetes, cancer, kidney stones, and abnormalities of the urinary tract can lower your ability to fight off the bacteria that cause kidney infections. Foley catheters (tubes inserted through the urethra to drain the bladder) can also lead to infection if left in place for extended periods. Women sometimes contract kidney infections when bacteria get into the urinary tract following sex.
~~Care~~
The doctor will send a sample of your urine to a lab for tests. Whether you need to be hospitalized or not depends on how sick you are. Either way you will need to take antibiotic medicine to fight the infection. If this is an ongoing problem, you may need additional tests to find the cause.
~~What you should know~~
Known medically as pyelonephritis (PI-low-nef-RI-tis), kidney infections usually start in the bladder. If your resistance is low, germs from the bladder can travel up the tubes (ureters) that lead to the kidneys, take up residence, and multiply. An acute kidney infection starts suddenly with severe symptoms, then quickly comes to an end. A chronic kidney infection develops slowly, grows steadily worse, and hangs on. The chronic variety can lead to kidney failure.

Kidney is a vital organ of the body. It filters the blood to excrete the metabolic waste product. When Kidney is infected there may be pain(back), fever, change of urine colour, change of urine output, even electrolyte imbalance may occur in severe infection.

it starts, usually, as a urinary tract infection. it hurts to pee, (or it might not) you drink lots of water. then as the infection works its way up you get abdominal cramps, especially after eating. bad back pain. when left untreated, the pain gets intolerable along your abdomen. you can get a fever as your body tries to fight it off. believe me, i had one and didn't know it... i couldn't stand up and had to go to the emergency room.
to treat it you MUST go to the doctor or you risk permanent damage to your kidney. they give you an antibiotic. once you get one, you could get them rather frequently and easily. drink water and take cranberry pills (i think the pills might be less acidic? plus, there is no sugar as there is in juice. sugar make it worse.) to prevent it in the future.
i know i'm sounding like a mom... but i had them a lot a few years back and it is no fun. hope you or whoever has it gets well soon. :)

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.
They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!
This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.
It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
