I have seen turtles cracked or completely smashed. There spine runs through the middle of the shell carapace, if it's cracked clear through there it's spine is probably severed.

Yes. I used to work at a nature center and we had the same thing happen to a turtle. believe it or not, we just put duct tape on the shell and little guy was ok!

no a car couldnt crack a turtle shell it would in fact shatter it and spead the turtle its self a few feet lol

yes most of the time they just explode. I have seen them ran over alot down here by the river. I have seen snappers you could not fit in a five gallon bucket with broken shells from cars.

yes you did the right thing by saving it! research it online to find out the correct way to take care of it....or take it to a sheltered lake and let it go
