Please do not take box turtles from the wild since, their population is steadily falling and it is illegal in most states to remove them from the wild. If you like one, here are some links for CB (captive bred) boxies:

It may be illegal for you to take box turtles in the wild.

Box turtles are NOT often found in lakes, maybe shallow creaks & ponds but lakes NO NO NO, those are not box turtles.

My brother used to catch them at the lakes behind our house. If you don't have a lake, is there a pet store near you that specializes in reptiles?
