Lots of links, lots of them. Don't depend on search engine for traffic, as they change all the time.

A search for "jewelry" would be asking too much. As other people have said it's links and keywords that matter or to give it it's proper name "Search Engine Optimization". Don't pay for it DIY. Start by searching for it online or get a copy of Search Engine Optimization for dummies or similar. To get to #1 on a phrase like Charity Jewelry isn't asking too much.
I did it for wholesale jewellers ( I haven't checked this week but I was #1 and 2 on google before my holiday)

One way is a Meta Search. Have a "meta tag" put in each page, so that when the site is being browsed by a "search bot" or "spider" it will read the "tags"
Example: if i had a jewelery site, I would put in meta tags that said, "gold, gems, jewels, jewelry, designs, diamonds, rubies, and on and on" these are not visible to the eye but appear in the text of the HTML of the page programming. So only the bots can read them, not the browsers.

Use the right keywords... things that people will look for, i.e. jewwerly, necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, etc. That way when someone be on search tool page, your page can be one of the top ones because it match their request.
