Which is more ethical and humane? Allowing early stage human embryos from fertility clinics that are not implanted to be used for potentially life-saving research, or throwing them in the trash, like they are required to do now?

EightBitHero - yes, it is a loaded question. I couldn't think of a way to make it unbiased and still get the point across.

As much as I support stem-cell research, this is a very loaded question.
However I feel the limits on stem-cell research imposed are ignorant and downright evil. Stem cell treatments show promise to cure or treat a plethora of maladies and people are trying to squash it because they think it goes against their favorite pieces of archaeic religious fiction.

I find nothing wrong with early stage embryos being used for stem cell research. There are so many people that can benefit from stem cell research. I believe that an early stage embryo doesnt have a soul YET and therefore it is not wrong to use the cells inside. Anyway, why not use the stem cells from an umbilical cord. I hear that is just as useful and the arguement about early stage embryos is not there.

To use these types of embryos is allright, as they are finite. However, creating such embryos for the purposes of research would be immoral, as would be researching an aborted fetus.
I don't think it is moral to take a life - even it it would save a million. I am not a utilitarian.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous ever created in the 21st century. I mean we are supposed to be a leader in this area, instead if you want to try any type of new electives you need to go overseas. Dam FDA and of course let's not forget GW and the religious Reich..
How can a country that is supposed to be so advanced lag behind on one of the most important issues ever made in medical history??? I am perplexed..
