I'm not familiar with firefox but familiar with the firefox engine in Avant browser. There are options in Avant browser to set not save tabs when exiting or open homepage when start.

i placed yahoo.com. Because it gives me the weather and local info right away, but msn is also good, it gives me the gas prices..
