I was wondering how many people they let you have in the room while you get an untrasound? Also, how many while giving birth? I have a lot of family that wants to see the first ultrasound, but I have no clue how many people I can take in there with me...anyone know?

Hi Ing.......

After being there for all 4 of my daughters' births let me answer this one.

Most ultrasound rooms are small. You'll be lucky to get one person back. Forget about more than that. It'll be easier and less stressful on you and ultimately the baby. If a lot of people want to see the picture get a bunch of copies made.

Now then, for the delivery..........

When you're delivering the little bundle of joy you won't want anybody in there who doesn't belong, unless you're Supergirl or Wonder Woman. Childbirth is a very stressful and complicated process. It's not easy to deliver a child and here again, the less you have to worry about, the easier it is on you AND the baby.

You can have some people in and out, but that's up to the hospital. You could probably have one person in with you maybe 2, there again depending on the situation. When the baby is born there will probably be 2 doctors (the main OB and a student or resident), maybe an anesthesiologist, and at least 1 nurse, probably 2. There's a total of possibly of 5 right there. Now if you bring 2 or 3 family members in won't that be a nice cozy crowd.

For the birth, keep it simple, especially for the first. The first birth is that, your first birth. Treat it specially as it really is. If you plan on having more kids, see what you want to do then. For this one keep it simple and as stress free for you AND the baby.

I hope everything works out and that your birth experience lets you see the true joy and wonder that bringing children into the world is.

Most ultrasound rooms are very small, and the techs don't like an audience either. Usually no more than 2 people are allowed in the room. The good news is, they will be giving you tons of pictures to make up for it! I scanned the 10 pics mine gave me, and shared those with family and friends.

You can also share the joys of seeing your unborn child via video - there are several places nationwide that give 3D & 4D ultrasounds, and also videotape them. With the videos, you can either get them on videotape or DVD! This'll be much easier, and safer - to share with everyone. Rates are very reasonable, the package that I chose for my unborn twins was around $200.

When I had my ultrasound they allowed my husband and that was all because the room was so small. If I wanted anyone else in there they would have needed to take turns.
The hospital L&D rooms were large enough to bring in family members. I was allowed as many as I wanted as long as they did not interfere with the staff or stress me out. I chose to have my husband only (my mother would have stressed me out).

with my second, i was able to have my husband, my mom and mother-in-law in the ultrasound room with me. take along a tape because some places can take video of it.

With my 1st daughter I had an audience. My husband, mom, dad, sister, mom in law, dr, student dr, two nurses, my labor nurse and another dr. As long as they don't get in the way, my dr didn't care how many people were in the room. Good luck and enjoy both experiences.

usually the baby's father is with the mother for this procedure...... they will give you a printout of the baby to show everyone else.. as for the birth, again the father and possibly the grandparents or other close family member... depends on the facility.... why not just hook up to the internet with a webcam and broadcast live.... ?? that way we can all see the baby! lol... good luck!

an ultrasound procedure especially for a pregnancy is a very special event for me, so i usually invite the prospective dad to accompany the prospective mom inside the examination room. after all, it's their baby, and they both deserve to get 1st peek at it. since we can videotape the procedure (and more recently we are able to store it in CDs), we give them a copy to share with their relatives and friends afterwards.
