Maybe they have irritable bowel syndrome, which can be triggered by diet eg caffeine, fats, chocolate, alcohol etc. Also stress can be a trigger as well. Is there any reason for the gluten free diet eg. Celiacs if so maybe your friend should go and see a dietitian to put them on the right path.

Well if he is on a gluten free diet then he probably has a gluten intolerance like celiac disease, but the diarrehea may be caused by some sort of gluten free substitute or anything new that he is eating. It could also be ibs or lactose intolerance. The best idea would be to go to a gastroenterologist. Also try sticking to bland foods like bananas and yogurt even that activa stuff with live cultures could help his belly.

Hi. You didn't state your friend's age or if he/she has Celiac Disease or why is he/she is on the diet. There is no correlation between a gluten free diet and diarrhea. Unless there are hidden ingredients in the products that may cause diarrhea.
If you friend has gluten inloterance, there's a new product called Peptizyde. It breaks down the proteins present in gluten containing foods and your friend doesn't have to make the diet. This is not for Celiac disease patients.
My kids are sensitive to gluten and casein and this is perfect for them.

They could be getting hidden gluten. Even things that appear safe, aren't always true. Like mentioned before celiac can cause a temporary lactose intolerance. Id try avoiding that for awhile and if it make a difference. Also having Celiac, it can cause you to have other temporary food allergies due to the damage in your villi. If you still aren't feeling better, head to a GI specialist who knows about celiac.
