Not at all. But the Italian wimp over-reacted. Give me a break. Someone headbutts you in the chest and you fall over like a little girl pretending to be in pain. I thought Italians were made of stronger stuff but I guess not. The Italians knew that France was turning it on and Zidane being capable of scoring was likely to set one up or notch one himself before the end of extra time so they had to cheat like they do in their own league to get him out of the game. At least the Tournament recognized him for what he is with the Golden Ball....the best player of the tournament.

certainly not. Firstly how do u overreact to a racist comment? Are you supposed to just walk away or pat him in the back. Everyone might not feel this way because not every1 isn't white. And it seems that, that is what counts to most people, being white. Instead of seeing one of the greatest football players in the world, some ppl see horrible things. It was obvious the Italians were trying to get rid of Henry, Vieira and Zidane. To me France won that cup , they played way better .I hope they investigate this whole situation.Italy certainly has made a name for itself, while France is the most racial friendly nation in Europe.

Zidane in no way or shape did he overreact on the comment.I would have done alot alot worst to him. Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane due to his time spent with Juventus F.C. and first told him: "Hold on, wait, that one's not for a ****** like you." As the players walked forward, Materazzi allegedly said: "We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore." Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying: "So just **** off." According to Brazilian TV Rede Globo, a lip-reader claimed that Materazzi twice called Zidane's sister a prostitute.

What would I do if someone insulted me racially in the final of the World Cup broadcast internationally with over 1 billion viewers? I would retaliate intelligently with an insult of my own, not a moronic headbutt. Zidane's a retard, what the hell is he thinking? He had to have heard tons of these insults over the course of his career. Couldn't he restrain himself on international TV? Trashtalking is a part of sports, no need to overreact in a game of that magnitude on a world stage with a billion people watching... What an idiot, I guess you can't expect any common sense from Zidane, he's excellent at soccer, retarded at common sense.

Well was it all over a racist comment? If so it still does not warrant a reaction like the head butt. They were on the world stage where in the past those who said racist comments were slammed. He should have let his feet do the talking and scored another goal. In stead he allowed those who said the comment to prevail in the end on the world stage. So YES.

Well said Fazor!

Many players get stick when playing - whether it's jibes aout their family, their race, being gay - whatever!!! It's not right that that should happen, but most of them manage not to resort to violence. And when you consider what they're paid to behave 'professionally' I reckon most of us could endure any amount of slurs for several million a year.

And what that hell was Chirac doing backing Zidane?! What sort of message does that send?

A great player, yes, and I'm sure in time people will talk less about the headbutt and more about his play - but it was a totally moronic thing to do.

Yes he over reacted and there was no proof that a racist comment was made. He is just a p*ssy that wanted to end his career like a jackass. Congratulations Zidane, you have accomplished it.

No. In fact, he should have K.O. the Italian. This shows how weak many people are, in this case most of this Italian team, if you call it that, to resort to such low levels of moral fiber and to use racial and religious prejudice. "You diry terrorist" is likely to have been the comment made by the other man, (Google for the source.) 'I'm not surprised at the poor comment , made by a poor player, of a poor team. By the way, disiccos351, eat a dick.
