If we're going to live in this world, we have to care what happens in this world. We cannot live in a vacuum.

What any nation does affects all other nations, either directly or indirectly. While some would have the U.S. become isolationistic and just "care about our own" ... others call for more direct involvement in the affairs of all other nations.

In this day of instant communications and the internet (which directly ties all of us together), we have to realize we're all in this together ... and we have to find a way to make things work for all of us.

The art of diplomacy is far too often overlooked. It is through diplomatic negotiations that alliances are formed, business relationships are forged, education is made available, and world health is addressed ... for starters.

When diplomacy fails, the ultimate "negotiation" takes place ... war. War is the final tool in the diplomatic "toolchest".

Why should we care about North Korea? Because we must. If we don't, we could end up with a nuclear conflagration involving the Far East and, eventually, all of Asia, Europe and the Americas.

We simply must find a way to bring the North Koreans to the table to discover a way to ratchet this crisis down. If not ... hang on.

are you guys serious? Do you know how much they would love to send a missile to Alaska or California and blow up some Americans? Kim Jong il is one crazy guy. Bush is trying to stay out of this one for the time being because our troops are spread to thin. He's not trying to intervene in other people's business. North korea is hundreds of times more dangerous than Iraq or Afghan. They have the technology and the weapons to attack the US

we should; but not to our the current extent. in regards to the missle issue, they are still technically at war with SK and they should not be limited in testing their missles. although their missles may become a threat to the world, they have the right to continue research and development.

if we do not like the threat from NK, we should put more money into R&D of our missle defense system.

Keep in mind that NK is far from developing a missle with the range and capability of reaching the mainland. The "long range" missle they tried testing can only reach Alaska. It is predicted that NK will not have the ability to reach mainland USA without several more years of development. By then a well vested missle defense system would be a better way to prepare the US and our allies from attacks. Keep in mind NK is just one country and other nations are continuing to develop missles and nuclear technology.

if NK chooses to be an aggressor and attacks virtually any country, a true international effort will surely supress and invade NK.

NK is very poor and just wants foreign aid. NK attempting to create attention via their missles. Clinton Administration got them to stop on their nuke program by promising to help build peaceful nuclear reactors for energy. The Bush decided to not follow through and help them build their nuclear reactors; and now NK is trying to gain attention again via their missles again.

They have partially closed themselves off to noncommunist and Western countries. Obviously the nation is nuclear capable and curious as to the effectiveness of its missiles. They seem to bear animosity towards countries of the West, probably the United States first and foremost. It is not totally clear what alliances they have forged. The nation may not have forgotten the Korean War.

Two atomic bombs already have gone off in Japan!

Because it wouldn`t be that hard for them to destroy L.A. with 1 of those long range missles equipped with nuclear warhead which could be developedd as well and even with only 1 with normal explosives is dangerous.

You know what Kim Jung IL isn`t as smart as the russians back in the cold war.

I dont want them to have a missle that could hit california

1) They have nuclear weapons

2) They have stated that they want to destroy us. Maybe it was just to get our attention, but since they actually have the nukes, I would take them seriously.

3) They have threatened other nations in the region, including Japan and South Korea, both our allies.

4) They seem to be actively and overtly working on a missile that will deliver a nuclear weapon to your front door.

We haven't spent much time "caring" about them in the
past but when they have nuclear missles pointed in our
direction, then maybe there is a good reason to become
interested.
