They think that it doesn't matter. It's not just on the Internet, though. I see it all the time at work. People send out e-mails that appear to have been typed by a drunk 8-year-old. Then they wonder why they get passed over for promotions.

If you ask them, they'll say things like "I'm not in school" or "This isn't an English class." Right, because the only reason you were taught English in school is so you could pass all those tests. It has no bearing on the real world.

Part of it is laziness, part of it is that some internet users think it makes them part of the cool crowd by using poor grammar and slang and part of it is that, since the internet is a worldwide entity, many people don't speak English as their primary language. If I tried to post on a german or japanese site with the pitiful grasp I have on those languages, then, I would probably look like one of those types of people to them or, more than likely, worse.

Honestly? I make an attempt to at least use proper grammar even though it is the Internet. But you're right though. I get irritated with myself if I forget to use spell check and something comes out all jacked up. If you're going to ask a question, you should at least take the time to properly articulate what you're trying to say. But yeah, you're right.
