always look at me like they want me, but never ask me out or anything. Then you see an attractive tall man and he is with a dumpy short fat woman.

I am 6'2", and, from what the ladies tell me, I am attractive. I have went out with girls that were anywhere between 5' tall and 5'11", I think was the tallest. How tall a girl is really doesn't matter to me. Well, honestly, I don't know that I would want a girl that is taller than me, but, then again, probably less than 1% of the total world female population is over 6'2" so that really isn't an issue.
As you know, lots of things play in to attractiveness besides how tall a girl is. Hair, body style, eyes, health, personality, etc. mean so much more than how tall she is. If dudes are really looking at you like they want you, then height is not the issue.
Look, I am a corp. sales person. I have literally never met someone that wasn't my friend. I don't even bat an eye when walking in to a board room full of strangers and presenting. However, I would never just walk up to a girl that I find attractive and just ask her out. Now, if she see's that I am interested and "invites me in" so to speak...such as: she makes small talk; a comment; maybe even it is just an inviting smile...then, I would open up and talk to her, strike up a conversation and then, maybe get a phone number, give her my card or whatever. I guess my suggestion is to open up a little bit.
Furthermore, the tall attractive dudes with the short dumpy girls that you speak of...well, those girls were probably once very attractive and healthy as well, but have either been in a long-term relationship with the dude or are married to him. I know there are exceptions to every rule, but I doubt a tall attractive dude would just jump for a short dumpy girl, unless, she just has an amazing personality...which means more than girls think.
I'm 28, single, tall, attractive, educated, financially stable, got my chit together and so forth, and I would love to hook up with a girl that was tall, thin, attractive, educated and has a great personality. Maybe we could breed the next WNBA player, NBA player, etc.! RIGHT?

I guess for the same reason most women do not like short men. I have been very short all my life and if I am sitting down at a bar or the library or whatever, I am able to talk to many more women than if I am standing up.
I think it is a societal issue. People in general expect the man to be taller than the woman.
As for my personal tastes, height does not matter and I have even dated a girl one who was just under 6 feet (I am only just over 5 feet). I will admit though, we got a lot of stares from a lot of people.

I'm 5'10" and my husband is 5'8". When we first started dating it was weird...I felt very uncomfortable wearing any shoes other than cheap, short flip flops from Wal Mart (so I wouldn't be any taller than him than I absolutely had to, lol). Now, after 3 years, that's gone...we don't care anymore. :)
I think with some men, maybe it's a dominance thing...men are generally taller than women, so when they see a tall women (I LOVE being tall!) they get sort of freaked out and feel threatened?

That's a tough one, first meeting compatible and second narrowing the pool of candidates by height. I've searched dating site for tall women because I'm 6'3", but there have been other flaws (location, income, smoker, different hobbies, etc.) If you join a co-ed volleyball league, maybe you'll meet tall guys.

I think most men feel that height determines domination and feel that the more of a difference in height means a more dominating position for them in the relationship. I know it's pretty sad, but I have actually had some of my friends tell me this. But don't worry, I am sure you will find the right guy for you... someone who is secure enough that height won't matter.

i know i am 5'11 and i for a long time had it hard, till i turned 18 then i was with this guy taller then me for like 4 years off and on. and then after that i had a hard time again and now i am 25 and finaly found my husband and he is 5'9....lol...you win some, ya loose some! just make sure that what matters realy counts and forget about all the rest!

sometimes guys think tall women done want to go out with someone shorter then they are, but hey, in the modeling industry you could probably go far, they look for tall women.

I like tall women, but I'm kind of short (5'6"), so I don't think they would want to date a guy who is shorter
