Umm, no. Seeing as most military and government bases are signposted (bright red on white), I think they've been watching too many repeats of The X-Files. Granted, the nuclear sub stations and places such as the barracks in Hereford don't have these huge signs but they aren't exactly reachable only by "secret roads". However, I heard there is a nuclear shelter under Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester. : /

There are places underground linked to the military but I dont think they are in any way secret just not made public knowledge.
I used to work on a military base and they had what everyone called "the hole". The hole was the entrance underground. Only the top people had access to it. The hole led to all the weapons and apparently "the red button". The roads underground led for miles around. I remember seeing a map and I was freaked out to think i could be living above explosives. scary!!!!

There are lots. You'd be surprised how many 'Government' places are under London.
Every country needs security.
There's a television programme on every so often, called something like 'Hidden Britain' (CH4). Which deals with this sort of stuff.

A friend of mine was taking photos (Digital) near a power station. When he tried to photograph a building he liked the look of, the camera wouldn't work. Before and after the camera worked fine. And he's an experienced snapper.
Very X-Files.

Clapham common, London on a early morning before the traffic if you put your ear to the ground you can hear traffic and movement. Some claim that this is a goverment bunker (safe) though I could be wrong

well if i knew about one, as a good american whos country is at war, even if it is an illegal one, I would not be telling anyone about it. we had a pretty good secret base in new mexico where we made some cool planes and had a cool ufo but a bunch of idiots told everyone about it
be a good american and shut up unless it violates the constitution then blabber all you want.

yes, between junctions 14 and 13 (eastbound only) on the M4.

it is signed up for works unit only, the sign writing is red, and, it leads to one of the largest conventional ammo dumps in western europe

Man! I used to drive past that Junction on the M4 nearly every day! It explains the police van that was nearly always sat up by the gate! (didn't think they were just eating their sarnies!)

Cheers, mate! I've learnt something new today!

Mark Thomas (the comedian and activist) did a show a few years ago about this very topic.
