Are there really people that still think the Earth is only 6000 years old? I have heard figures that say some %30 of Americans believe this, but I have never actually met such a person.

@ Thinker:

Have you ever heard of carbon dating or fossils? or did God make those things to trick us?

The Catholic Bible used to have years in BC listed at the start of each chapter or story. 4004 BC I recall was the year God created the Universe through his Only Creation Jesus Christ. Of course, that is ridiculous to accept and I don't believe most Learned Christians believe that way anymore, what with dozens of methods to put an age on this planet and the solar system. Currently science agrees that the Sun and Planets began to form 4.65 Billion years ago. The age of the Universe is currently thought to 13. 5 billion years, but that is theoretical as is Earth's age. But folks that actually believe Earth is only 6,000 years old are just clinging to what they "think" the Bible is telling them. But even the Bible has God saying that one of our years could be like a thousand years to Him or maybe its the other way around. Anyway, the Bible even has built in loopholes. It depends who's doing the interpreting. I trust science before I believe a book that is over 2,000 years old and written by people who were very superstitious and ignorant about science. Good moral values, tho. Gotta have morality. Were just barbarians without moral ethics. That's what religion was created for. To save us from ourselves.

The earth is only about 6000 years old. There is not evidence about it being older. Carbon dating is inaccurate. It is assumed that when you use carbon dating that the environment was the same in the past. Anyone who has studied creation vs. evolution know that the atmosphere surrounding the earth was different. The air density was a lot greater and the oxygen level was greater. It was like living in a hyperbaric chamber. Dinosaurs walked the earth with humans. Fossils have been found of dinosaur tracks along side humans footprints. The fossils where created during the time the earth was flooded. That is also why there are fossils of animals on continents that they don't live today. Things float around a lot when there is water covering everything for long periods of time. You don't have to take my word on it. Check out www.drdino.com and at least learn the other side of the coin before you judge the believer of the young earth.

Yes. According to the events in the bible, the age of the Earth can be calculated to 6000 years. The fact that the bible is... Wait a minute... There isn't anything that makes it different from any other book. Oh well.

At any rate, because there are so many idiots in the world who follow the bible like sheep, there are in fact still some people that believe it has only existed for 6000 years. If course, this means that there is no such thing as dinosaurs, and completely undermines the fact that the Earth was once a single piece of land (which I think is stated in the bible, actually)

Lol...

Yep, there certainly are. A friend of mine believes that. He claims that the Bible says the earth is only around 6000 years old and that God put all the fossils and such in the ground so that we (mankind) would have something to satiate our curiosity and keep us from getting bored. He also claims that God set up the universe to look like there was a big bang billions of years ago, once again, to keep us from getting bored.

Quite frankly, I think it's a bunch of horsesh**, but hey, we live in a free country where anyone can believe whatever they want. Go figure.

If you meet anyone who states that everything in the Bible is explicitly true, ask them how Noah got 2 of every species in his ark, when there are millions of different species.

Of course, they might pull the old "well God can do anything", but the response then is "so what was the point in Noah building an ark?".

These people will drive you round the bend in the end, because when you back them into a corner, they can always use the "well, God can do anything" bit, like hiding dinosaur bones to fool us all.

Why would God be such a tricky devil.

There is actually very little evidence that the earth is "billions of years old." That myth was created to allow enough time for evolution (another myth) to take place. Anything to take God out of the picture, see?

There is no incontrovertible evidence that the earth is older than 6,000 years. And yes, I've studied evolution - have a masters degree in science.

Carbon dating makes sense only if you believe that the earth is 6000 years.

I think most people in the world believe the Earth is more than 6000 years old, in fact, most know that the Earth is much older than that.
The real age of earth is approximatley 4.5 billion years.
