They keep people's brains occupied during boring situations - like waiting for your car oil to be changed, or a doctor's appointment. They can be picked up again easily, so it is not a hardship to be interupted while doing a puzzle, unlike reading a book (where you might be in a really great section and want to know what happens next).
They involve numbers, but also patterns, and, if you are a visual learner, you can focus on that aspect.

Was shopping in the local Dollar Store, looking for cheap puzzle
mags, when I saw this Sudoku puzzle book. WELL, I have been
hooked ever since....what a neat concept, and challenging too.
I've even gone to the extreme and downloaded the puzzle on my
Dell. Look out Yahoo Answers, you've got competition !
p.s. I really need to get a life (chuckle)

I heard of them earlier, but my brother got my mom and sister involved and they got me involved. I now have a handheld SoDuKo game that I play all the time!! I've now gotten my husband hooked!

I always check for new games and that was my new one in November. I can not explain the fascination, I just know people love them and so do I.

They challenge you. I do them in the morning to tune-up my brain and help me focus. I "heard" of them in the newspaper (NY Post).

they should challenge you, most people like a little challenge. you can find them in the newspaper ( by the comics ) or buy them in books.

it is just interesting for people that have a lot of free time or just have the passion. i personaly dont think that it is!!!
