Today where I live the Weather Service said it was going to rain all day yet it hasn't rained a single drop.

Forcasting deals more with statistics and averages. There was a good chance that it was going to rain ... who knows, maybe it did rain in the next county.

Review the radar maps of that day to see if a big system did move though your area ... maybe you just got lucky/unlucky depending on how you look at it.

Forecasting the weather takes into account so many variables that is almost impossible to predict exactly what will happen, when. Many times weather forecasters overuse stability indices in predicting rain. A weather forecaster has to be willing to use their own input as well as computers to get the best forecast.

Weather Forecasters don't care about the weather, they care about their money. So they just say whats on the screen that has been typed up right above the camera for them to read. Even though they know its gonna be wrong.

Because weather is Chaos Theory.

Chaos theory describes the behavior of certain nonlinear dynamical systems that under certain conditions exhibit a phenomenon known as chaos. Among the characteristics of chaotic systems is sensitivity to initial conditions (popularly referred to as the butterfly effect). As a result of this sensitivity, the behavior of systems that exhibit chaos appears to be random, even though the system is deterministic in the sense that it is well defined and contains no random parameters. Examples of such systems include weather, the atmosphere, the solar system, plate tectonics, turbulent fluids, economics, and population growth.

So, general meaning is that it is just one of those things that are very hard to predict, there are many variables controlling the weather.

Forecasting is logical guessing at its best.

Here on the west coast we have no one except the ocean to "tell us" what's ahead. I think that's why here on the west it's harder to know what's going on. I think it's probably easier for those in the Midwest because they can look as well as discuss what has already happened (in terms of weather).

But most of all I think it's because they are not God :)! He is truly the one who knows!

Perhaps instead of wondering, you could learn how to forecast and make your own predictions.
