People yawn because there bodies sense that there is too much CO2 in there bloodstream. This triggeres the lunges to inhale inorder to bring in more oxygen. The contagious part is still a mystery to scientists.

No one really knows why we yawn. It may or may not have anything to do with being tired. Also, it's not "contagious" per se....it's just a coincidence. One starts thinking about yawning and sets off the nerves that make one yawn.

between the main considerable motives, i think, is a style of nerve talked approximately as a mirror neuron. once you do specific movements, alongside with yawning or crying or giggling, those nerves activate. besides the undeniable fact that, additionally they activate once you notice somebody else do those movements. they are considerable for clever animals in empathizing and archives different's state of being. that is a few thing it rather remains being researched, exciting stuff somewhat, besides the undeniable fact that it somewhat is concept there's a connection as to why yawning is 'contagious', only like seeing somebody cry could make you unhappy, or how laughter is in a similar trend contagious.

i think we yawn becos there was a lack of oxygen in the brain...
as for the contagious part... i remember reading something about the differences in the air pressure... when we yawn, the air taken in cos the air pressure in the surrounding to be slightly lower... so if the air pressure of the person beside you have lower air pressure within as compare to the surrounding... the person would yawn to balance it up...

well, there are a few theories but none of them have been proved, so i don't think anyone knows, you may hear from others that yawning is a way of ridding the body of carbon dioxide by taking in more oxygen but studies have proven that wrong, another theorie is an evolution theory that our ancestors used to show their teeth to intimidate others, but that has also not been proven, so the truth is... no body knows

It's a sympathetic response, probably something from our caveman days. Maybe a yawn was developed to make everyone go to sleep at the same time in a cave (more body warmth).
