It goes right through your system, just like everything else you eat. That saying you might've heard that it takes seven years to digest gum is just an old wives tale. I asked my doctor several years ago the same question. The whole seven year thing was made up to try and discourage kids from swallowing their gum instead of throwing it away.

It won't hurt your wife.

People that think that gum takes 7 years to digest in your stomach have bought into an old wive's tale .. a.k.a. a total load of crap.

Gum is made of latexes (eg. leche, caspi, sorva, nispero, tunu, jelutong, or chicle, which is still commercially produced), paraffin wax or beeswax, polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, stearic acid, and various natural gums. These will digest in your stomach like any other natural substance. What does not get digested will be excreted (pooped) just like anything else that enters you stomach.
