Well the Spanish Stole the west, and the New Continent was what most called it. They were discovering ,where they once thought the edge of the world was. it was called Plymouth rock I guess.

I don't think it had a name because naming it would show ownership and the Native Americans did not feel they owned the land..

I don't know what it was called, but the Vikings were the first inhabtents. I'd google Viking History, if they have related subjects.
