They've changed the creative writing tutor and now I'm being told to add more bedroom detail. I'm trying to write a document about a woman's life and how she ended up with three men and three children in a semi-autobiographical style, mistakes, everything. I'm being honest and perhaps for others to think on and he's being commercial but they reckon he's right if I want it to sell. I think it will still sell if I don't follow his advice? My ex's aren't dead.

I am self publishing. It's set it up. I am looking for a distributor as suggested by my printer.

If you are uncomfortable or not any good at writing more detailed love scenes then, by all means, don't. When your book is published it will have your name on it and you need to love every part of it.

Good luck with your writing!

Books and stories do NOT need sexual graphics to find a market. There may be commercial considerations in that respect for big name publishing companies, but if your work can stand alone without needing those details to further the understanding of the story, then don't go down that road.

If it isn't necessary to the plot, leave it out. You'll be prouder of your end result, and able to show it to anyone.

Remember that teachers are there to guide you, but the work itself is yours, and in the end that is the only thing that matters. The teacher really has nothing riding on the success or failure of your work, so listen to your own heart.

If your tutors were any good they would be busy writing.
Follow your own instincts, you will get better the more you write. The old cliche about writing about what you know is accurate.
Write about your family.
Then take one aspect and write in more depth about that. Then take a small section of that and go in to more depth, until you feel you are really in touch with your subject.
Anything in human experience can be fascinating if the writer is honest enough. It doesn't have to be bedroom romps and music video fantasies.

It comes down to the age old questions always face commerciality v integrity to the art (in this case reality)

You have to come to terms with the fact that this is a commercial venture. You have to make sure this thing will sell.

If you dont feel comfortable with the changes welcome to writing for a publisher....Sorry

Thats your call. If you think its a good idea to add more intimate
detail then by all means you should. However if you don't, just
accept what the person said as constructive criticism and do
your own thing.

Each tutor has his own style, so no tutor is good enough. Follow your heart. Worse than getting bad sales is hurting those you love for money.
