....in a nursing home, no life support, but still existing...how long before you have sex again (obviously, with someone else)? Would you divorce your spouse eventually? What is the protocol here?

This is a theoretical question. My husband is alive and well!

I meant "hypothetical". Again, my husband is healthy and conscious....

In my hypothetical situation, your spouse is in a coma for a looooong time (years). What if it were 20 years, or more? Would you not have sex with anyone?.....Ever???

Time. How much-who knows. I would say at least a couple of years. I would divorce him first, but still take care of his needs. Get his family involved in the decision. Don't even talk to another guy until after the decision has been made to divorce openly. Everyone should be on your side. Then you will have no problem. Start dating right away-and you can expect trouble.

I think that is a HARD question! I don't know what I would do in that case. You really would have to follow your heart in that case. I would try to stick by my husband for as long as I could, but I believe that sex doesn't make a relationship. i love my husband and I vowed to be with him for better or worse and I want to keep that vow! There isn't a real protocol!

I would not have sex with anyone as long as I was married. Divorce first, and then you will figure the rest out. There is no protocol. This is the person you loved. Treat them with dignity. Do not make people think you are a scumbag, or that you are a martyr.

even if she was a vegetable she is still the girl i fell in love with and promised to love and be faithful for our entire life together..it would dishonor her to have sex with someone else while she is still living.how could i enjoy sex with someone else while the love of my life sits rotting away alone in a nursing home.if she could survive home with me and didnt need 24 hr.nursing, she wouldnt be in a home anyway.i would take care of her untill she passed away or untill i was no longer physically care for her....and thats what real love is all about..sex is just a bonus..if you dont feel this way about your spouse then you are with the wrong one anyway and in that case screw your brains out if you must..but real love is until death..and beyond.

Hard decision...I probably would wait until my dearly departed left this world...
but hey
If you would like a little humor: Heres a joke:
What is the best thing about eating a vegetable?
....Putting him back in the wheelchair!

Cheer up
You will be rewarded for your temporary abstain-is

tough question, but your vows said sickness and health, til death do you part, this is the stuff i always tell people to think about before they get married, its part of the better or worse deal and thats the deal you took, unfortunately yours turned out to be the worse end of it. is there any chance of recovery? if not i think you need to start thinking about what decision you will make there before you think about getting laid, how long will you let him lay there? you have much bigger issues to deal with than sex, get a vibrator and start seeking councel on what to do about this.

I would remain loyal to him and not do anything that I wouldn't do if were not in that condition. Vows are sacred and should remain that way until the final breath.

Cheating is cheating, just cause they can't find out, doesn't eliminate the fact. You married them, you took the vows, you have to hold them sacred.
