Multiple causes can be behind the death of a newborn...a birth defect somewhere, suffocation (maybe the doctor just wasn't fast enough or able to untangle the umbilical cord), trauma...death is what causes it to be stillborn...hence the name.

So, if you can prevent any defects (by quitting smoking, drinking, taking drugs, riding unsafe carnival/fair rides, or exposure to anything dangerous...you don't want to go to a mosh pit with a baby on the way...start taking prenatal vitamins, etc.) and keep up with check-ups at the doctor...then you probably won't get a stillborn child.

cord wrapped around the baby or neck cutting off blood supply. I know a women who lost her son at 8 months due to decreased blood flow from a compressed cord. Certain birth defects can cause death before birth. Sometimes there is NEVER a known cause. Accidents like car crashes or high falls. My grandmother had her 1st child be born in 1952 with a broken neck he lived 3 days.

There are many things that cause this. It could be the failure of the mother's kidneys or premature birth from an incompetent cervix, or many many other reasons.

It is a very hard thing to lose a baby this way. You should try again right away. Get on with living as soon as you can. It took me 6 months to even be able to get out of bed. There is nothing worse than losing a child. I pray God will be with you.

Many medical reasons, the health of the mother, her taking care of her body while pregnant, sometimes it is just nature knowing the baby would not be healthy and letting it go.

Many possibilities for this tragedy: genetic birth defects, drug use, some stress or trauma to the mother during pregnancy. I have several friends who have experienced this in their lives and it's heartbreaking. If this has happened to you, my sincerest sympathies.
