This is not an issue exclusive to "newsmen." Too many people butcher the english language. Mispronunciation makes people sound dumb. If you encounter someone who can't pronounce words, do us all a favor...CORRECT THEM!

I'll tell you what was worse... During the 70s our illustrious president, Jimmy Carter-- an Annapolis graduate, and nuclear engineer--CONSTANTLY called it noo-kyoo-lur energy.

If you want to hear proper English, listen to BBC newsreaders ( or probably the equivalent highbrow US station) then try to copy them you will see the $$$'s mount up in your pay packet.

Because that's the proper pronounciations. Jewelry can also be spelled jewelery or jewellery and nuclear can be spelled neucular.

because thats how they pronouce them there is no class on how to pronounce every word correctly but they pronounce them so that people can understand if they didnt pinpoint every sylibol you'd be complaining that you couldnt understand them and that they sound like there slurring there words

I don't know. I've always had trouble with "admiral". It just seems to keep going and before you know it I have said "the admirable".

mainly because they didn't pay attention in school..or,(this is very common nowadays) they had a real stupid teacher.
