Don't tell her. If she makes you pay, ship her to Mexico in a box, with holes cut out. She will later thank you. Really, it works.

Step 1) Pick up telephone.
Step 2) Dial landlord's telephone number.
Step 3) Say: "One day I noticed a crack in my window that wasn't there the day before, and it came from the base of the window. It happened when the weather started getting really hot. A few more cracks developed in the same way and I know we're not causing it."

Windows cracked by an object hitting it always have an impact point. Cracks caused by warping of the frame are also distinctive from impact hits. Look closely at where the windows started to crack. You may have to take apart the frame to really discern this. If it is the latter, you will also see a misalignment of the window frame. However, if you have ever opened and shut your windows, it may be hard to prove that you didn't just slam shut the window too hard.

When temperatures changes, objects expand or retract. In this cause, the glass expanded because of the heat up over the past few days. When the glass expanded, cracks formed because there was not enough space to fit the whole glass. It is not your fault! What do the cracks look like. Tell him/her if they obviously could not be made by an object bumping into it. Good luck! If he/she kicks you out, SUE!!! LOL

Hi Most of my life I have been a renter. Take my word for it, it pays to have a good relationship with your landlord! Then when something happens, whether it your fault or not, it a lot easier to tell them. Honesty is always best. Just be straight forward with the landlord. Best to tell them before the crack gets worst. He or She will appreciate it. Good luck!

That's a likely story. How many years did the window exist before you moved in?
Actually, the house is probably shifting and you'd be doing the landlord a favor by telling them.

Just tell your landlord that the window was broken and tell him what might be the cause. He will surely believe you and you don't have to be afraid if you're being honest. Im sure it is in your lease agreement that the landlord should fix the apartment, if needed.

It is not from the heat but it may be from some settling of the frame. Just be honest and say the crack appeared by itself. This is not too uncommon.

Honesty is the best policy, if you told me that's what happened I'd believe you. By the way I'm an apartment manager too.

Doesn't matter if she does or not. Just tell her to get it fixed, it's hazardous and could fall out with a slam of a door, break out and cut you.
