Honestly, because they serve no purpose to the outcome of the game. People will cheer if and when they want to cheer. Student Sections often are already riled up enough to be perfectly fine without the cheerleaders, and they often drown out the L-E-T-S-G-O or whatever cheer is going on at that moment. Our student section often leads our cheerleaders anyways; therefore, they are not serving a purpose towards the game at all.
And cheerleaders in general are not hated. Most people give competitive cheerleaders lots of respect because most people can't do high backs, back handsprings, let alone attempt a decent pike.
People who hate cheerleaders find them annoying. A whole section of students jumping up and down can pump up the players, but 7 or 8 or however many peppy little cheerleaders are just going to distract them, not help them.

Hate is usually an expression of frustration. People hate other people that they perceive to make their lives harder. Perhaps someone hates cheerleaders because they are perceived to be prettier, or because they get more attention, or because they only talk to certain people. The questions you should ask yourself, if you feel hated, are (1) do you deserve it; and (2), do you need to explain yourself to someone that misinterpreted something you said/did? Empathy is the path to understanding; and understanding is the path to a hateless society. Confront your problems head-on.

From what I remember from high school about cheerleaders is that if you weren't at their social level then you weren't worth their time. They basically got everything, they were the paris hiltons of the school. Maybe thats going too far, but don't act like your too naive to know why some people don't like you.

Because they're beautiful and popular. Because they achieved something that the haters didn't. Because they get all the boys. Because cheering is the stupidest passtime in the history of sports.

Probably because some people believe cheerleaders are nothing but ditzy, slutty idiots.
Personally, I believe the people who think that are either idiots themselves, or are simply jealous.
I think cheerleaders have a tougher job than you would imagine.
Plus, they usually have nice bodies and pretty faces, which doesn't bother me much at all. :)
Cheerleaders are cool in my book.

Not everyine hates cheerleaders; it's just a stupid stereotype people came up with that says all cheerleaders act the same way.

Its just a stereotype that cheerleaders are vapid and snobbish. And all too into being cute for boys and their own cliques
I had to get over the stereo type myself.

I guess it's because they appear so uppitish! (Nose in the air attitude). Then there's the ones that go out only with the sports guys, get knocked up and dumped!
Actually, we don't hate 'em, we'd just rather leave them to their own game... they don't appear to be good for much other than just to look at?!
(Sorry... I was married to one!)
