I really am not computer illiterate, even though this question will make me sound as though I am. In fact, I am the person my friends and colleagues contact with “how do you do . . .” computer questions. Still I find myself asking a dumb question.
When you save something to your desktop, are you really saving it to the CPU? There is a problem with my monitor at work, and I have a lot of documents on my desktop. I don’t want to lose them when they install the new monitor tomorrow. Common sense tells me that my desktop items will appear on the new monitor. Still, I need an expert opinion for reassurance.

You won't lose the documents when they replace the monitor. The documents on your desktop are actually stored in a folder on your hard drive, just like everything else on your computer. Don't worry! Monitors are made to be interchangable ;).

Okay, yea you are right on the "Still I find myself asking a dumb question" part.
No, nothing ever gets saved on your CPU, RAM, Videocard, CD ROM drive or anything else. EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING gets saved on your Harddrive, hopefully you know what that is. Its hard like a rock, usually coated in metal, and looks like a small rectangular box with 1 or 2 huge wires connected to it. Some tiems you can even see a disk inside of it.
So if your monitor has something wrong with it. don't worry, it screws up nothing
(as long as what u are calling your monitor, is a monitor :: the thing you look at to see all them pretty colors and what not picutres of you and your friend::)
If your monitor is screwed up, get a new one, nothing will be messed up on your computer/ desktop.
Just make sure u have all your definitions
computer as in the huge box thing with all the hardware inside it
desktop as in the Windows Desktop, with the start bar and all the icons and your cool/lame backround of something
Soooo if your monitor/screen is broken. then don't worry about a thing. your computer isn't screwed up, just what you are looking at is.
Hoped this helps, your usage of words really questions me about if you really know what you are talking about.

No when you are putting objects on your desktop you are storing them to files on your hard drive. The hard drive and the monitor are two different subsystems of your computer. The monitor takes signals from the graphics card and displays those signals on your monitor. There is nothing stored on your monitor and you will see no difference except a better view when you power on the new display. Enjoy the view!!!

The question doesn't make you sound computer literate.
The desktop is a folder on the hard drive. The monitor is just a display device.

Nothing gets saved on the monitor. It is only a display device. It is in the CPU. Ther is a desktop folder with your settings in your profile folder.

Monitors don't store any information.
So installing a new one won't make anything change :)
(The information on your desktop is actually stored in your computer tower in a piece of hardware called a hard drive)

Firefox is purely as ineffective dont waste time with that. attempt rebooting. If that dont artwork bypass to possibility-free mode and uninstall. If that dont artwork with slightly of success you could fix from a kept aspect. once you position in and the IE8 reboots it may take about 15 minutes for IE8 to replace and do its bits in the previous it comes decrease back ok. might want to commence conventional the subsequent time.
