a 'know it all' shows off what they know while someone who is knowledgeable simply informs when asked

What a good question.
I've always maintained that I am knowledgeable, and not a "know it all" because I know the difference between ears and a mouth.
A "know it all" gives the answer, having not been asked. A knowledgeable person will either wait to be asked, or will give the information to the other person in such a way as to give the impression of being helpful, and not for self glorification.
Of course, this is all my own opinion. But I hope it helps.

My opinion of a "no it all" is my brother-in-law. He's an A** and THINKS he knows everything about everything. Knowledgeable is when you read up on or learn about a certain subject. Being Stupid and being Ignorant are also two different things. Being stupid - you can't figure anything out. Ignorant is because you just have not learned about it yet but you are capable of doing so.

Someone who is knowledgeable will look at the question and try to understand it before answering it.

They will also give other people a chance to answer at least some of the questions.

a 'know it all' does not care what you think. They will just rudely interupt with what they thing - whether they have thought it through or not. They also do not like giving anybody else a chance to say anything.

well, a "know it all" is somebody who knows enough about the situation or place they are in to succeed, but the problem is that the cost of their success often has a negative effect upon others, whereas it often occurs that opinions and knowledge on a topic or situation will be disregarded, or dismissed regardless of right or wrong. Being knowledgeable is knowing enough about a situaiton or field of work or study to make sound decisions that have a positive effect upon the decision maker and all other individuals involved in the knowledgable persons decision.

A person who is a "know it all" thinks he knows everything and doesn't hesitate to share his "knowledge," whether others want to hear it or not. A person who is knowledgable may know a lot, but doesn't throw it around. I've heard it said that the more a person knows, the more he realizes he does not know.

Someone who is knowledgeable knows many things about various different topics and volunteers the information when asked. Know it alls only seem to know things about a few specific subjects and cram the information in your face constantly with an air of superiority

A knowledgeable person can answer honestly on quite a few questions. A know it all will lie through their teeth to convince you of what they think is the right answer.

A know it all never admits he is wrong. A knowledgeable person looks up answers. Librarians are knowledgable.

A 'know it all' has to let everyone else know that they know it all (usually, they in fact know very little - they just like to sound as though they are intellegent). A knowledgeable person knows a lot 'stuff' but doesn't brag about it, they just use their knowledge appropriately.

A "know it all" is someone who always has to be right, always has to "prove" that they know more than anyone else. A know it all is often someone who has a great deal of pride in themselves. They make me want to grab a pin and burst their balloon of self-importance.

"Knowledgeable" is someone who is highly educated but who doesn't have to prove anything to anybody. I have a neighbor who has a PhD in chemistry and is a university professor. However, she doesn't think that she is better than us lesser mortals. She is knowledgeable but is not a know it all.
