FIFA awarded Zidane with MVP status after his disgraceful headbutting incident in front of millions of viewers worldwide. What sort of message are they sending to their fans - in particular children - by awarding this individual with anything besides (at least) an all-inclusive one-year ban.

The vote had to have been held prior to yesterday's game....there is no way the writers award this award to Zidane after seeing that ridiculous move.

He deserves criminal charges! what he did was unsportsmanlike and rude! he needs to have respect! i know he was tired, and mad, but in sports you've got to learn to control yourself. If every player exploded like whenever he/she got mad, sports today would be disgraceful, and dishonorable. He needs to be punished, because the other players on the feild were mad i'm sure, and no one else did anything like that. i had great respect for him as a player of the worlds greatest sport and as a person, but with that disguting act of sportsmanship, i have lost all respect. He definatley shouldn't have done that in the last game of his career, that is what people around the world are going to remember about him. It is horible that he is awarded MVP for that game, he didn't earn or deserve it. That is teaching people (mainly youth) that you can mess up, do bad, hurt otheras, foul, and still be rewarded. That is one of the worst messages you could display to anybody! He is a great player and he got frustrated, but he took it way to far. He definatly should not be at all rewarded for that play, he made a dirty and flagrent foul, Zidane should be punished!

Well a one year ban might be a little drastic but he definitely should NOT have gotten the MVP... I don't care how well he played before the incident. In my opinion character is a big part of sports especially on that high of a level with everyone watching including little kids.

Zidane lost his temper, but he's still an amazing player. I mean don't get me wrong, what he did was wrong, he is the captain of the team and he lost control of his emotions (not the first time) but criminal charges? not a chance.

In responce to badcompany:
no words justify that action. Getting a rise in other players is part of the game, you can't let words get to you though. NOt enough to head butt a guy at least.

If i were FIFA i would strip Zidane of his golden ball after that disgusting display of class. He doesn't deserve to be regarded as the MVP of the world cup. Give it to Buffon, at least he deserves it

Let's not forget that Zidane is not the first player who got a straight red for an intentional foul:
- De Rossi (against USA)
- Materrazzi (against Australia)
- Rooney (against Portugal)

Please stop trying to make this event much bigger that what it really was : somebody loosing his temper ...

I think the only insult here is Zidan- This guy is classic arrogant frenchfuck who thrives on being the centre of the universe!

The nerve of this guy to "spoon" shoot a penilty shoot in the finals?! What a a$$hole!! Then tries to score a header like in 1998 finals. This is somekind of effort we only get to see in the finals. ( What a save by Buffon!!!)

The baby can't handle namecalling, so the fcuk starts an all out attack on the player.(mutherfcuker almost killed the guy with is mutherfcuken head butt!!)

And, oh yah..1 more thing...france ...YOU MAKE ME SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good that you lost!!!I laugh at the french..hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he deserves the golden ball! one bad move doesnt make him all bad he had a great career and played a great cup until that unfortunate moment. no way criminal charges, its the heat of the moment in sports and until we kow what was said nobody can really say anything about it. the italian is as guilty

He deserves nothing. He should just sit in a corner and think about what he did. Stupid A$$!!! He ruined his whole reputation over something stupid. What a way to leave the sport he loved so much and was one of the best at playing.

If he was called a 'dirty terrorist' by materazzi as the reports are saying, he deserves the honor. I'm proud of him for standing up for himself dispite being in front of millions of viewers worldwide.
