Want to back that statement up with something? Anything?
The guy is hitting .288 / .388 / .609, and on pace for 58 HR's, 164 RBI's.

Ortiz may be a hair overrated, but Kerry Wood is clearly the most overrated player in baseball.
Ortiz is having a monster year, but over his career is merely good. He may be turning the corner to really become great, though.
If you look at similarity scores, Ortiz looks a lot like Geoff Jenkins, Lance Berkman and Mo Vaughn. Those are very good players. Maybe not the Ted Williamses and Babe Ruths people seem to think Ortiz is. But pretty good.
Now look at Kerry Wood, who has been hyped as the next Roger Clemens. He's had a few great games, but his career is a major disappointment.
In seven seasons, Wood has only 70 wins and 54 losses. Look at his 10 most similar pitchers: Dave Boswell, Steve Busby, Jim Nash, Vern Bickford, Britt Burns, David Palmer, Jack Harshman, Pat Zachry, Pat Dobson and Orlando Hernandez. No Roger Clemens. No Hall of Famers at all.

As far as I'm concerned, he is good (league leading 87 RBIs through All-Star break). He is overrated though when they say he's the best clutch hitter of all time. He still has more to prove there, though there is almost no one else TODAY (not ever) that i would want in the plate in the 9th down by one with two on. There is no doubt the man has talent. I don't think the most overrated in baseball though.

Okay, I asked this question the other week, but it was in polls section, anyway, the only reason I asked the question is because some person asked if Jeter was overrated...I asked this question because I was mad at this person because they know that's not TRUE!! Jeter is not overrated and David Ortiz ( no matter how much I hate him ) is not overrated...he is a great DH...I wouldn't say he's a great 1st basemen...he's okay at 1st. But overall NO he is not overrated and neither is JETER!!

I will take that answer
Ortiz is not over rated, he helped the red sox win the world series.
Arod is on the list tho, he is great thru the season, but come playoff time, you can say he is a choker.
Rolen is not a hitter, so, he may be overrated in hitting, but not in fielding, I would take him in fielding any day over Arod, Jeter, Kent.
Bond, well if he would just step up and admit he did steriods, then maybe we would know he was overrated all along. but since he didn't he is still overrated.
anyone else, i'm willinkg to answer

Absolutely not. In the words of Joe Castiglione the Red Sox announcer, "He is superman for that team." He said that after his second walk off in three days a couple of weeks ago. To be "overrated" you have to perform under expectations. David Ortiz performs at everyone's inflated expectations and he does so consistently. So let me ask you, "Who's your Papi?"

Are you kidding?? he leads the American League in home runs and RBI and has hit a few walk off hits this year. He is one of the most feared hitters in baseball, and he is also one of the gentlest and kindest human beings alive. He is far from being overrated as a baseball player or as a person.
Have to call them as I see them.

Not one bit. He's a stud. My only issue with him and the AL for that matter, is the DH. I think the BEST player in the MLB should be an EVERYDAY player. Not one who hits 4 times a game and gets to kick back in between innings.

Ortiz is not overrated.
I would say J.D. Drew is the most overrated player.
