The pressure is where you can still feel the baby weight on your cervix. I kept thinking I had to go #2 and I kept saying it over and over and the Nurse would say then just do it I will clean it up. But I said never would I just crap on a table like that...but really the whole thing was the baby pushing on my butt as he was coming out. W/my second kid I did not feel that as much because he would not get in position. So I was pretty numb from the epidural and having trouble pushing...so I went back to the first time and kept saying in my head "push like your taking the biggest #2 ever push push push" and he finally came out.
I know it's gross and I don't normally talk about that stuff...but really that is what it feels like. I didn't have any labor pains just that whole feeling of going #2. I will take that anyday over the pain of contractions!! BTW I never went on the table either...but I swear that was all I thought about both times.

Ok.. have to get on my soapbox for a minute. As a medical professional, I have witnessed a lot of births ranging from a natural non-medicated birth, to a water birth, to many with drugs. Let me tell you, if you can get the epidural DO IT!! You don't have to be a hero, or prove anything to yourself or anyone. I understand that some people would want to not have meds and be in pain the whole time, but why do it that way? Moderm medicine has come up with a way so you don't have to feel anything. That's so much better then the other way.
I had 3 epidurals, the first one was a still birth, so I didn't have to do much pushing- only 10ounces, so he basically slipped right out. For the other 2, I was so numb that I didn't feel any pressure at all, except for the catheter they put in so they can empty your bladder. You won't feel that either.
I've heard it said that it feels like you have to go to the bathroom, like you have been holding it for a long time and can't hold it anymore. Your body will naturaly bear down when it's time.

I agree with the above answer. Why add anything to the process of childbirth that may cause more problems? I understand that there is a need for some women to have pain meds. but that is also what breathing is for. I have 3 children without epidural. Guess what you feel..... pressure. So I guess I cant answer your question, but think hard before adding anything else to you & your baby. Some people cant handle pain well & others do better that most. It is a mind over matter thing!!!

I asked my wife for you :)
Basically feels like needing to go to the bathroom when it is time to push, otherwise, there was very little pain once the epidural kicked in.
Based on my wife, and a bunch of her friends, you absolutely MUST get the epidural and you will be happy you did :)

I remember (since I had 3) that I could feel pressure that was like something pushing down on me. I could still feel the babies trying to push their way out. It wasn't painful, it just felt like I needed to bear down.
The worst part about the epidural was the needle they use to numb your back before the needle for the epdirual.

Okay first of all WHY THE HELL are you going to allow someone you don't know to stick a needle in your spine? Are you crazy?
Suck it up, girl. If you do it naturally you can guilt the kid for many years.
I had a natural birth. No way anyone was sticking anything in my spine. Thanks but NO!

It feels like when you got to pee. There is no pain you just feel like you want to push. Hope that helps.
