A contractor is a person hired to do a specific job, at a specified salary, and some times the time frame they will work is also defined in the contract. Basically they are a contract employee that you hire to do a specific job. Terms of employment (if contract is with a company for a year or longer) are spelled out such as benefits, work hours, specific job duties and responsibilities. In contruction terms, they are hired to do a specific job for a specific dollar amount. (Carpenter, painter, plumber)
