No, as a Dutchman I support none of my neighbouring countries Belgium, Germany and England. Come to think of it, I do support neighbours of our neighbouring countries: Scotland, Ireland, Denmark and the Czech Republic - with exception of the big neighbours and the bland neighbours of neighbours - no France, Switzerland, Austria or Poland for me.
Scots are to be congratulated for not going along with supporting the dreichest team in the cup finals.

Well guess I must be a heretic since I don't really support Mexico or Canada. I have a tendency to go way south in supporting Brazil or over the big pond in support of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England. However, this year I found myself really cheering on the team from Ghana and my absolute favorite was Germany. Okay, guess I just love and support football/soccer cause that doesn't leave many teams out huh!!

And to ALL the English on here and your Gutter press,
Don't take the P*ss
You wouldn't support Us and don't come on here and say you would Cos we'd ALL Know you'd be Lying.
Stop kiddin yourselves on, We've disliked each other from Year 1 and that ain't about to change no matter how long you make a song and dance about it .
We did'nt support you in the World Cup this OR ANY Other year,
And you would NOT support us, DID NOT support us in 1978 and never will
What's the big problem, It's all good

England and Scotland may be both in the UK but they are seperate countries (hence why they compete seperately).
Neighbouring countries often have a strong rivalry. Would you support your favourite club's rival (eg: Man Utd and Liverpool) if they were playing someone else?
When you're own country isn't involved, or you are not as passionate about the sport in question, you may cheer for another/neighbouring country (many of my friends here in New Zealand wanted Australia to do well) but this isn't really the same kind of 'support' as a true fan has for their country.

Good question! Tough to answer. I think I would support any team that was an ally of my country, but I understand that in Europe there's simply too much history between some nations for them to support each other in the World Cup. However, I would expect no one to support the cut-and-run French sissies. Also, I would never support any communist nation.

As a Scot I would never ever support England as a nation but English team members representing Great Britain is different and these athletes would get my full support.

Even germany and Holland are archrivals,
I have to say this world cup I did support germany for the first time in my life (Holland - germany final would have been great), they just had a good team going...and we had bad luck against portugal

As a Brazilian I would support neighboring South American countries such as Ecuador, Uruguay and even Paraguay. NEVER Argentina, b/c they are our archrivals. Unless, of course, they were playing France or England. Then they'd have my support!

If scotland were in the world cup and england weren't you'd see the word 'Britain' used quiet alot as happens when andrew murray plays tennis, and i'm irish, the players as individuals are fine but it's the idea of this mythical 'bulldog spirit' that bewilders me.
