Because bacteria sits in your mouth all night long and festers.
When you gargle Scope or Listerine or brush your teeth in the morning, you're getting rid of most of it, so your breath is not so offensive.

It's not your breath that smells bad; it's the bacteria in your mouth.
People with teeth problems - like several cavities usually have bad breath because of the bacteria.

its because, saliva is static as we sleep. this causes bacteria accumulation&metabolism. all the toxins not being washed away by moving saliva gives u stinky breath. same if u don't speak for hours.
