When auto's because popular....seriously.

It used to be wide open and people would walk up...but as more and more people started driving, they had to find a way to service the folks...and since they didn't have (many didn't) any inside seating area....but they did have wide open space and access around the building...voila.

Around the 1940's, they first had people park in the car and women with skates on would come up and take your order. You could either eat in the car or take it to go.

A&W, McDonalds & Van De Kamp were some of the resteraunts that use to have this parking lot service. It was a big hit in the 50's and 60's because everyone wanted to show off their hot rods.

Looks like it's a place called Red Giants Hamburgs. Interesting, I always thought it was McDonalds.
