Kinda gross, I know. BUT- I've started working in an orchard where I seem to be allergic to EVERYTHING. My nose runs, I cough, I can't breathe as well, but lately the most annoying reaction is that a whole bunch of gunk builds up in my eye, irritating it, and making my vision go blurry occasionally. I have to stop work, and dig around in my eye with my dirty hands to get it out before moving on. Why does this happen, and is there some kind of miracle cure that fixes it? I've already tried eyedrops... they help, but don't cure.

OTC eye drops only add to the irritation. Might I suggest that you keep a bottle of distilled water nearby. When your eyes feel they need refreshing, pour the distilled water directly into your eyes. Do not use your dirty hands, as you are only adding insult to injury and above all more contaminants from the dirty already on your hands. If this distilled water still does not work, my I suggest you visit a optometrist and have your eyes checked. You could also get a pair of work glasses, the kind that surrounds the eye area, to help keep foreign objects out of your eyes. As for your allergies, try Claritan in 10mg doses.

Your optometrist can prescribe you allergy drops that will help prevent and relieve your condition. Oral allergy medications often do not adequately help with ocular allergies so a topical drop is your best bet. Good luck!
