This is not about a famous person but I have a story similar to the first answer.

On my wedding day my wife's (now my ex-wife) mother's cousin was at our wedding when we found out the he was related to my mom's sister husband (my uncle) so this guest was sort of related to both of us, and we joked that he was entitled to sit on either side of the church!

NOW FOR THE IRONIC TWIST!

Of course I had no contact with my ex-wife after our divorce except for two strange unexplained calls to me at work for no understandable reason, and no contact with her parents who had expressed their desire not to lose contact with me, but I thought visiting my ex-in-laws to be too uncomfortable, and never had any contact with them.

It was through this same link in the family that I received the news of the death of my ex-wife, at the age of 33!

It's remarkably accurate, most people would be surprised. One study gave a group of people a completely random address in a random city. The people were given instructions to try to mail to the address by using other people they knew. They would write the addresses of the people they mailed the letter to while getting as close to the desired location as possible. When the letters got to the address, the average number of people the letter was mailed to was around 6. You can read more about it in Malcolm Gladwell's book, The Tipping Point (a great read).

My friend Amy works in human services with the aunt of a kid who was on the X-Files. So I know David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson by 4 degrees of seperation. So I'd know David Lynch through 5 degrees of seperation, because David Duchovney was in Twin Peaks.

It's a fun game, especially with celebrities, because you can connect them via movies. It's gotten honed down to "six degress of Kevin Bacon".

I have less than six degrees of Kevin Bacon--

I have a friend, R.
R's cousin is Fred Ward
Fred Ward was in Tremors with Kevin Bacon

I believe arbiter00, regardless of the indisputable fact that that is achievable to make connections - our brains do all of it the time. as an celebration baby x lives in an remoted tribe in Africa, Oprah has been to Africa, Oprah is an actress, Kevin Baron Verulam is an actor,... that's not precisely what became meant by employing the total conectedness element, regardless of the indisputable fact that that is exciting eh?

Its so true!!!! I used to date a guy whose Mother had long lost twin sisters. As it turned out, the sisters were living halfway across the state, and one of them is married to the cousin of my sister-in-law. Its weird how the world works.

There is always a connection but sometimes you don't know enough to see it. Years could pass then it hits you. Always 6.

It's completely true. And if you know ANYONE in show business, you don't need anything like six steps, because movie stars know EVERYONE. For example, I know Hugh Jackman. I would only need one or two steps to get from him to anyone in the world.

Oh yeah.

Go through enough levels and everyone has some contact with everyone. Our world is a twisted web of relationships.
