Limewire and the Gnutella network it runs off is not illegal. It's the files shared on the network and downloaded through Limewire, that are copywritten, are illegal to download.
The reason you hear such controversy over Limewire is because the movie association and the recording industry knows it's more difficult to stop piracy by bringing people as individuals to court over copywrited material. Instead they go after the distribution sources to stop it all. However, it was ruled that such "illegal" files are not stored on the program or the network but on people's individual computers itself. Therefore it's not illegal. Just controversial.
Why Napster was originally shut down was because illegal files were stored on Napster's server computers.

there is a saying if it sounds to good to be true...
it most likely is. stay away from it
it is highly illegal and could land you in jail and a heavy fine with no computer or all three so be smart do the right thing!

limewire sucks go to kazaa it's totally free and LEGAL! it's only illegal if you copy cd's and try to sell them. kazaa is ppl sharing music and you download it from them and they download it from you.
