To be honest I'm not big on holidays. I don't really like all of the pressure and attention that goes with them. On the other hand I have been known to host lots of holiday celebrations. The honest truth is I do often use holidays as an excuse to get people together (otherwise some won't). I enjoy having fun and spending time with the people I love, and there are some people I only get to see on the holidays. But given the choice I would almost always prefer a normal day over any holiday.

Holidays are so important because that's when families come together, unite and to break bread and celebrate another year that we have made a difference in our own or someone elses life. It's about fun times, togetherness, laughter, and fond memories. It is not the time to remember bad situations or circumstances. It's all about the joy of gathering.

Because, they let me remember the good times I had with my family when I was little. Christmas and Halloween are my favorite. Christmas is a time when family comes home, to be together(although this year will be different. My daughter is expecting her second child, so myself and her in-laws will be going there it should be fun. We all get along.) Halloween I do a lot of scary decorating, and dress up to pass out treats. Its just fun! I do all the holidays in one way or the other, even Groundhog Day. But, those two are the most acknowledged.

Truthfully I really don't care for Holidays anymore since my husband died. He was really big when it came to holidays. New Years Day it was the big traditional dinner, Valentine's Day was always flowers and a gift, Fourth of July he would buy tons of fireworks we would have a cookout and go to the park for the fire works, Halloween he would always dress up and take the kids trick or treating he even decorated the house for Halloween, and Christmas was the time for secrets and more secrets. He made every holiday so special and without him to share them with anymore there just not as special anymore. I would say the sadist and happiest would be Christmas sad because he's not here to share the moments with me, he never got to see his grand-kids ever, but the happy part is seeing those grand-kids eyes when they unwrap their presents.

Here in Greece we have 3 big religious celebrations and two national. But there are many others. The religious are : Christmas, Easter and Holly Mary.During that days many people feel the meaning of the celebration and kids are happy because they don't' have to go to school. The national ones are to hon our the sacrifices of Greeks in order to be free now.

I really don't enjoy celebrating holidays, with the exception of Christmas, but with only my husband and daughter. My mom and dad are divorced, my daughter's father and I are divorced, My husband's mom died and his step mom isn't too bright. My brothers both live out of state and my mom's significant other isn't easy to get along with. I would rather spend Christmas vacation in Florida at the beach or Disney world, I live in Michigan.

Holidays aren't important. I spend the obligatory holidays with family, because its tradition, but I can't wait to get home.

the only holidays important to me are the Christian holidays. Other holidays are mainly national holidays and not of personal importance. national holidays vary country to country, but religious holidays do not.

my favorite is Christmas....
It is all about family and friends...(well all the holidays are).
On christmas..everyone comes over....we all help with the dinner..we eat in the dining room..which is saved just for family gatherings....(since most of us are grown up now).
We sit all around the dining room table..and we have a few smaller tables..we call the kid tables..some of us old folk enjoy sitting at the kids table..because it is less pressure..of what you are doing these days..and you should be further along in your career and so forth..
after dinner...we head to the parlor...we sit in a large circle. presents are passed out....the youngest usually begins..we each are only allowed to open 1 present at a time....some have to make guesses before opening them...we go in turns...usually around in a circle...it is wonderful because everyone knows who got who waht..lol..if you are caught cheating..you loose a turn....
half way thru...we pause..and start dessert.....after dessert we go back to opening presents...the first one out of presents..gets to look in the tree for the hidden key....(was an irish tradition of my parents)....and then gets to open the box..for an extra present...and they also win the duty of washing the desert dishes (or putting them in the dish washer)...the person with the most presents...has to dry the dishes..lol....
the presents part..have been known to go on for about 3 or 4 hours..or even sometimes longer..it is a lot of fun...
I couldn't imagine christmas any other way!
