I assume you are inquiring about sexing a chipmunk by sight. This would be near impossible to do as in all chipmunk species, ( there are different types of chipmunks depending on where you are from ) both sexes are alike in color and size.
Unless you were able to actualy catch a chipmunk, and lift it's tail, it would be almost impossible to identify the sex of one these critters.
If you could get close enough to one you would certainly be able to see the males "balls" ( or if you like testicles) which would be just under the tail and would be larger when the male is in heat (generaly in the early spring).

Also if you were able to spend some time and watch them in their habitat you would at least be able to identify the male by it's dominant behaviour.

the one that is never home is likely the male :) The other way to check could get you bitten ...best I can do hope that helps a little try Googling it. ~A~

If you look really closely, the females have little pink bows in their fur. Sorry, I have no idea.
