Are there some actual stories of real life vigilantes/super heroes? I think "Walking Tall" was based on a real person and after 50 + years of comic books you think someone would have tried something interesting.

I thought you said "real"?

OK. I will give you one of many. His mother died, his siblings were place in an orphanage, and at sixteen he enlisted in the army (since no other service would take him). He was wounded in South France while fighting off a German Counterattack. During that attack, he call for artillery fire on his position, he fought on top a burning tank, and held his position for hours. Even when he was wounded, he still directed his company to prepare for another attack.

Oh, did I tell you, he was 19 years old. http://www.audiemurphy.com/

A vigilante is someone who takes the law into their own hands and is crucified by the press for having done so. A super hero only exists in comic books. I can think of no real life ones.
