They want you to be literate. Literature or English are certainly good majors, as is History. But a language or two would only be helpful, so perhaps French or German or even Latin would help.

Naturally, a Masters of Library Science will be your next step, but the undergrad direction you take will give you a specialty, and that will be an edge for you later.

There is no set bachelor degree required in order to be admitted to a library science graduate program. The best idea is to find an undergrad degree that focuses on skills you will need later on as a librarian. This will vary depending on what type of librarian you want to be - school librarian, public librarian, academic librarian or special librarian.
I, personally, got my undergrad degree in Computer Information Systems and have found it extremely helpful as an academic librarian. So much information is online now that you have to be very familiar online search strategies & new technology.
Hope this helps you out!

All the librarians I know were teachers first. So, you could look into education or whatever you want. You are gonna need to get your masters, so I doubt your bachelor's will matter too much as long as you get good grades. Check out schools that offer a Master of Library Science.

The link is from an article in US News... lists those schools offering library science degrees on line... Why don't you review those... only those that are Professionally Accredited...most important... and see what their entrance requirements are... you will be a Masters if you want a job that actually pays

Today, the most popular route they go is to get their degree in Library Sciences. And most likely, you'll need a Masters degree.
