I answered my phone today and uncharacteristically I answered "Company Name - Yogi speaking". Well, the fellow on the other end of the phone was some IT geek doing some work for the company and this fellow is from India or one of those places like Appoo on the Simpson's.

Do you think he took offense at the Yogi remark - being that I am a Christian and all?

Oh, I thought for real your name was Yogi - maybe he did too.

It is hard to speculate what is in people's heads. I think you should ask him.

Bring this to his attention. Let him know that you were using slang (we sometimes use yogi to mean 'its me') and that you realize it can be misinterpreted by others who are not familiar with the slang. Be the one to approach him to ensure there was no intention of offense.

Most of the time the technicians from India leave a name and number or email address incase you need to contact them again.

If that fails, ask an indian person you may work with.

I don't know if you offended that guy but depending on where you work I would watch your humor--people have been fired for lessor offenses. Is it worth your job? Cut your losses and save your brand of humor for your after hours.

Do you know him? Will you ever see/speak to him again?

If not, why do you care?
