Obviously, once every four years you're able to celebrate your birthday on the 29th, but when do you recognize your birthday during the three years between each Leap Year? I've one friend and an uncle who were born on the 29th of February and both celebrate their birthdays on the 28th during the non-Leap Years. I've also heard of people choosing to celebrate theirs on March 1st. Which do you do?

At the very least, this question might serve to give an indication of how many Leap Year babies are members of the YA community. Any details you care to provide about what it's like to have a Leap Year birthday will be appreciated. Thanks!

I was not, Mac, but I had a friend, as a child, who was and we used to joke a lot about that! It was a funny and intriguing idea for children. She used to celebrate her birthday at March 1. I haven't heard from her in many years but I imagine that, now, she must be very happy to pretend she only gets older every four years! ;)

I have another story related to this day - May I tell you what happened to my family in February 29, 1976?

We lived in São Paulo, Brazil, where I and my only brother were born. My Dad worked as a product and project commercialization manager for Philips. We had a good life and were very happy there, but my Dad was not happy at work. He never liked to work for other people and, lately, he and his coworkers were constantly being mistreated by their boss, which no one likes but, for him, the way he is, was particularly hard to stand.

He decided he wanted to work for himself and live in a smaller place, to try to have a calmer life. After some months, he opted for Vitória, near Vila Velha, where we live now.The two cities are almost the same, if you look at a map ( you do have one, right? ;) ), you'll see.

He and my Mom came here, rented an apartment and chose a school for us and went back to São Paulo to take me and my brother. We sent our things by truck and came by car, during the Carnival of 1976. It takes about 14 hours driving from one place to another and it was February 29 when we left São Paulo and arrived here, at night, to start our new life.

I wasn't happy at all to leave the city I love and my family and friends but I'm the kind of person who always try to find the best in all situations and adapt easily to new places. In a few days, I knew a lot of people at my new school and had many new friends.:)

My parents and brother have lived here since that day. My brother married and had two kids and don't dream of living somewhere else. My Mom and Dad are also very happy here.:)

I went back to São Paulo, years later, and lived there for ten more years. During this period, I also went to Europe and lived in London, for some time. I'm back home, now, but don't know for how long. I see new horizons ahead...;)

We always remember that date and think of March 1 as the beginning of one more year at our new home, when there's no February 29.

Thank you for the opportunity to share a part of my life with you, Mac!:)

I was born on April 26, so this is not a problem I've had to deal with, but there are three ways to manage this question:

One:

Celebrate every four years. On your 25th birthday you will actually be 100 years old.

Two:

Celebrate on February 28 or March 1.

Three:

Pick any day in the year you like and celebrate on that day. That advice also applies to people born on Christmas Day.

And, by the way, a belated Happy Birthday.

I have a friend that says he celebrates every four years, but in turth his family celebrates Feb. 29th. If you are born on that day, choose the day you like. I haven't heard of people celebrating March 1st, but there probably is some who do.
