There is an essential element of life I call "the sacred flippancy." Incorporated in life, it leads to wisdom and is part of takinng life seriously. So I'm serious about using flippancy to build wisdom.

To take life seriously without allowing for this element of sacred flippancy is to risk veering into POMPOSITY, which is a laughable and ridiculous surfeit of baseless seriousness. Our culture very strongly supports veering into pomposity, giving it nice labels like "positive thinking" and "optimism" and "sincerity."

There are things in my life that have to be taken seriously, it's called responsibility. To balance things off sometimes, I try not to take myself too seriously. I don't want to walk around every day looking like a sad sack , or grinning every day like I'm a blooming idiot. My check and balance's in life.

well, ive learned to be serious about certain responsibilities...job, finances, paying bills, living cleanly...but for the most part i like to play and try to maximize the fun without affecting my responsibilities...so im not sure i understand the question. i take life seriously by refusing to be defeated by anything and give up but not to the point of being "serious" about everything in my life...i think i just went cross-eyed....

I wouldn't either if I didn't have to prove my worth everyday.
or I didn't believe someone is dying of poverty-related illness every 3 seconds. or if I believed in an afterlife.

That's the only way I'd be convinced that life is banal, meaningless, serendipity, a BBQ on sunday.
