It is not. It is a comparatively new science and in the process of development. With the material under its observation as unsteady as wind there are bound to be diifficulties to arrive at firm conclusion immediately.
That does not make it a non-science. Freud who pointed out the part played by libido in its development was hooted down as a pervert (Just think of a sucking child as having a sexual escapade!)The Behaviourists who denied the very existence of a psyche( I know how you feel from your actions and you me from my behaviour!), the survival instinct as the driving force, the genetic make up as source--all these are hypotheses for understanding the mind. Applications of some theories to cases of schizophrenia and other mental aberrations have improved our knowledlge of the human mind whereas these were treated as the pranks of evil forces etc.Steeped as we are toa world of science with its strict laws standing firm throughout may find the frequent new theories coming up. But as I say this has to do with the amorphous nature of the "material" under scan..

I don't. I believe that most people who teach, take it and practice it are just HUMAN and have problems like everyone else. However psychology isn't about me going to them and talking about their lives, is it? Its going to them and probing the questions about my life. They are trained in questions to ask and how to respond to those answers. They are or should be non-judgemental which helps you to open up even further. Lol, if they were perfect I would feel so uncomfortable going to them. My lover had a Masters in Psychology and he was just a normal person, so I know and understand what a Psych major is, however I'd rather speak about my problems than let them fester.

Graf,
There is nothing wrong with wanting to know how the human mind works, and how to fix the problems. We just don't have a clue about what the human mind is, let alone how it functions. I have worked with mental health practitioners for years. What a bunch of messed up people. Suicides, drug dependence, etc, etc. Perhaps in time, they will realize that there is more to the machine than the physical organism, and it's parts. When they realize that we all exist in more than one dimension, I think that we might have a chance at making psychotherapy work.

I dont believe its a junk science because it helps many people talk about their problems and sometimes solve them too. If it a bunch of junk then why do we often turn to psychology when it cannot be scientifically explained. Maybe you are not opening your mind to new ideas and theories.

Which one of you is asking this question?
Of course it's not junk science. Your professors and teachers have apparently learned a lot in their own studies and are now able to apply that knowledge. They're simply being themselves and are in-touch more than the average individual. That's why they appear "weird" to you. Give it a chance... you might learn something about yourself while you're at it.

I think psychology is relatively harmless. Psychiatry, I think is really messed up. Pharmaceutical companies donate all kinds of money to influence schools and outcomes of studies. Only years later do we find out the truth that their anti depressants can CAUSE suicide. Psychiatry needs a massive overhaul.

The people who actually suffer from the stuff they major in (for psychology) are better at that job/major because they've been through it and know how it feels and what runs threw their minds, so don't judge that

Are you calling them hypocrites because they are messed up themselves? Everyone has problems, no matter what you study and how good you are at it.
And no, I do not believe it is junk science.
