I think the need to be "fake or Plastic" is because they need a way or a reason to "fit it".. It is also a way of hiding themselves from other peoples insight on who they really are.. for the most part most "fake" people are hiding themselves for self esteem reasons or afraid someone will find hidden secrets they have been covering up for a long time...
I know "fake" people and over time the truth always comes out on why they behave the way the do... sadly theses people will aways be around because society teaches we MUST fit in to be successful relationships whether personal or not... what ever happened to being yourself I will never know... as for me... what you see is what you get.. always... I don't hide anything regardless of how persona the question... and if you don't want an honest and truthful answer I wouldn't be the person to ask.. lol cause I won't tell you something you yo soothe your ego.. if its the truth painful or not.. I'll answer...

I think everyone is scared of what everyone else thinks...to a certain degree--some worse than others. I try to just be myself and don't want to be pretentious. But sometimes I have even found myself "putting on" around some people that make me feel uncomfortable...like, I'll pretend to be nice to someone I don't really like at all, because I have to get along with them because we work together or whatever. Sometimes you have family members you don't really get along with and you try to be nice and when you don't really feel it...sometimes it comes across as "fake" or "plastic in nature". You may not mean to come across like this...but sometimes you just can't help it. SOME people are so fake and full of it that you can tell they're up to no good...those are the ones to stay away from altogether. Hope this helps !! : )

It's probably because people feel an unwarrented need to project an image that is not reflective of their true inner self. Perhaps because of insecurity, they may be wanting to project an image of what they would want to be, rather than what they are. Rather than appreciate the inner beauty that resides within everyone, many people feel a need to adapt a sense of superiority over others, thereby creating what some call "Attitude," which merely builds a protective emotional fortress around themselves to hide their own insecurities. Many such people live in the Los Angeles region, and this was commented upon by the Dalai Lama in a seminar that I once attended. When asked through his interpreter why people in Los Angeles were so jaded and mean-spirited, he replied; again through his interpreter, that it was because so many people come to Los Angeles only to seek fame and fortune, rather than to develop their spiritual senses, and that fame and fortune are rather shallow goals indeed. It's a shame, but it's true, because I remember Los Angeles when it was a very friendly city, and the people of Classic Hollywood were truly nice and kind. It all began changing in the 1980's.

we're not naturally that way, but we are conditioned in our society to become that way. I think part of the problem is that we don't have any real serious hardships here, so people just become less. At one point or another in life, if you're not fake/plastic, then you are taught very well why you should be, and indeed may even want to be after a while.

Being fake or plastic is at the core, lying--a negation of what is fact by expressing the opposite. So basically the question is, " why does everyone lie?". It all depends on the circumstance but the motive is almost always gain and/or preservation of self and/or others. Sometimes its done to inflict loss/pain others. But this leads, again, to a big "WHY". Well, because we happened to be human. This reminds me of a monumental epic story, "West of Eden" by Harry Harrison where intelligent reptiles, unlike humans can't lie because of the way they communicate but oh, this is another topic.

I'd say it's because of people like yourself. Seriously. I don't mean to be harsh, but look at what you've done.
You begin by insulting a group of people. Perhaps they deserve it, but on the other hand it might be considered arrogant of you to have made such a judgement.
Then, parenthetically, you insult anyone who might not have understood your metaphor.
Then a few minutes later, you specifically insult everyone who has answered your question.
The world is full of judgemental people, and many people aren't willing to make their true selves vunerable to the insults and jibes of someone like yourself, and so they create a plastic persona in which to shroud themselves.

It has always been that way...People have a "public" face and a
"private" face. Check out the different times in history...the
powdered wig wearing (fake) men in the 17th century...the
heavy-makeup wearing (fake) "flappers" of the 1920's. It's all about changing fashion and people wanting to be "in" and
accepted.
If you are referring to the plastic surgery epidemic we now have...
People are doing that more because it is so accessible today and they bow to peer pressure to conform to societies "barbie doll" standards.

We all have a persona that we present to the outside world which bears only partial resemblance to the true essence of a person. Some folks are more convincing at wearing the mask than others.

because society has caused people to believe that you only matter if your perfect. I'm not plastic but i do have small boobs and have heard more than once I'm beautiful but if i had bigger boobs I'd be perfect.and i have though about having my boobs done
i did not do it in the end . but it definitely makes you think..
maybe if more people thought like you do the world would be a better place.

It's cheaper to pour a bunch of plastic in a mold and let it harden than to craft anything of quality from wood or clay.
